What kinds of breweries do you work with?

I work with start-ups planning their first brewhouse, small and mid-sized production breweries, and taproom-focused operations. The common thread isn't size—it's that you care about the beer, the space, and the people working in it.

How is your work different from equipment reps or designers?

Equipment reps and designers are important partners, but they each have their own priorities. I come in as a brewer and builder whose loyalty is to your beer, your workflow, and your long-term plan—not to any specific manufacturer or layout trend.

Do you only work on-site, or can we work remotely?

Both. A lot of planning, recipe work, and process design can happen remotely using video calls, shared drawings, and documents. For layout validation, optimization, or complex troubleshooting, on-site visits can be layered in when they provide real value.

How long does a typical engagement take?

It depends on the project. A focused layout or document review might be a short, defined engagement. A start-up, optimization, or program build-out often happens in phases over weeks or months. We'll define the scope and cadence together so it fits your schedule.

How do we get started?

We usually begin with a short discovery call to understand your brewery, your building, and what's on your mind. If it makes sense to keep going, we'll define a clear scope—what we're focusing on, what's out of scope, and how we'll communicate.

What should we have ready before the first call?

You don't need polished documents. Rough floor plans, tank lists, photos, a description of your current brew day, or a simple list of concerns are all helpful. If you're a start-up, even a basic sketch and target system size is enough to begin.

What areas can you help with?

I focus on brewery start-up planning, layout and utilities thinking, recipe development and scaling, brewhouse optimization, wild and mixed-fermentation programs, Jun, and drafting support for contractors and engineers.

Are there things you don't take on?

I'm not a full-service branding or distribution agency, and I don't replace your legal, accounting, or engineering professionals. I'm happy to collaborate with them, but my work stays rooted in beer, layout, process, and operations.

Pricing & Logistics

How does pricing work?

Pricing depends on the scope and format of the work. Some projects are best handled as a defined package or phase; others make more sense as hourly or retainer-based. After our initial conversation, I'll outline options that fit the complexity of your project and your budget.

Can you work with small breweries or tight budgets?

Yes. Many breweries I work with are small teams juggling a lot at once. We can narrow the scope to the most important decisions and focus on high-impact changes instead of trying to tackle everything at once.

How do you handle travel and on-site visits?

When on-site work is appropriate, travel and lodging are billed separately and discussed before anything is booked. We'll make sure the agenda for an in-person visit is clear so you get as much value as possible from that time.

Do you offer ongoing support or retainers?

For breweries that want periodic check-ins, recipe reviews, or support as they grow, ongoing arrangements are possible. This might look like a small block of hours per month or structured check-ups tied to your production calendar.

Confidentiality & Intellectual Property

Will our recipes and processes stay confidential?

Yes. Your recipes, process notes, and internal documents are treated as confidential. When I share case studies or speak about work, I generalize details or anonymize the brewery unless we've explicitly agreed otherwise.

Who owns the documents and drawings you create for us?

Layout sketches, process documents, and brewery-specific materials are created for your use. You're free to share them internally with staff, contractors, engineers, and other partners involved in your project.
